Religious Education

Our Lady of Lourdes Religious Education Program includes our Youth Ministry:

Commonly referred to as CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine).  It includes the religious instruction of the children Pre-K to High School as well as adults.  Teachers and aides in the religious Education program are all volunteers and more are always needed.  As per the Religious Education Department of the Diocese of Wilmington, all catechists work toward Certification.  There are four levels of Certification; Basic, Intermediate, Advanced I, and Advanced II.

Every two years, the Youth Ministry choose among themselves, representatives for the National Catholic Youth Conference Convention.  Various fund raising activities assist in providing for these trips.

The Our Lady of Lourdes Religious Education Program is comprised of many facets.

R. C. I. A. / R.C.I.C.
RCIA is an acronym for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (or Children).  It's a 7 month process for those interested in full incorporation in to the Catholic Church.  Some have never been Baptized.  Some have been searching for a spiritual home, and their search has brought them to us.  Others were Baptized, but feel the hunger to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.  Each candidate is accompanied by a sponsor during the period of preparation.  Ordinarily, the process begins in early September.  It involves regular meetings of the candidates, sponsors and a priest, along with other members of the Parish RCIA team, who accompany them on their journey of faith.
